Gold Team selection will be as follows:
1. JII athletes who advance beyond state level
competition (JOs, Finals)
2. JIII athletes who advance beyond state level
competition (JOs, Finals only)
3. JIV athletes who

(2 boys, 2 girls) in the council overall; and
b.Athletes who advance
beyond state level competition (Future Stars and beyond only)*
4. “Write On” Selection.
Athletes (J IV athletes selected by a committee
of coaches (no more than 5 athletes per area can be
asked to write an essay for consideration. Coaches will use their discretion
in selecting athletes to hand write essays. Essays will be reviewed by a
committee of coaches (1 from each area) and ranked (without knowledge of who
wrote the
essay) with one athlete from each council area
selected to participate in Gold Team activities.
*Note: In the event that an athlete qualifies for
Gold Team by finishing
first in the council and also advances beyond
state-level competition, additional Gold Team selections will be based on
overall “regular” season ranking. That is, if Racer X finishes first in the
council and also advances to Future Stars, Racer Y, who finished second in
the council and did not advance beyond state level competition, will be
invited to join the Gold Team. This process will continue until there are
two JIV boys and two JIV girls who did not advance beyond state level
competition on the team.
Kandahar athletes, even those who advance to Piche,
are not eligible for Gold Team selection except through the “write on”
process.
